What is vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a type of vitamin called L-ascorbic acid. It is a slightly more acidic substance than vinegar and is a water-soluble substance with four alcohol groups.

Vitamin C is one of the vitamins in almost all fruits and vegetables.

Most carnivores have vitamin C synthase, which can be synthesized in the body, but humans do not have vitamin C synthase, so they must be taken as food.

Vitamin C is a sensitive substance that is easily destroyed by heat, light, water, and oxygen, so to preserve vitamin C, it is recommended to store possible foods in cold places that are not in contact with air, and to cook them for as short a time as possible without shredding.

Each country sets a different recommended daily intake of vitamin C, with the World Health Organization setting 45mg for adults, 55mg for pregnant women and 70mg for lactating women, and 100mg for adults in Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Foods rich in vitamin C include broccoli, bell pepper, kiwi, strawberry, cabbage, lotus root, and Yeoju, especially broccoli, which is known to have the highest vitamin C content among vegetables.

Vitamin C Effect

1. Anti-cancer effect
Vitamin C helps prevent cell mutations and cancer by removing free radicals from the body and preventing the oxidation of cells.
Vitamin C, in particular, is effective in inhibiting the formation of a carcinogen called nitrosamine in the stomach.

2. Prevention of cardiovascular disease
Vitamin C helps prevent cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis by lowering blood LDL cholesterol levels and increasing HDL cholesterol levels, ultimately helping blood circulation and blood vessel health.

3. Strengthen immunity
Vitamin C helps improve the body's immune function by reducing viruses and bacteria in the body through antioxidant action. Vitamin C also has the antihistamine effect of reducing excess histamine, which is particularly effective in reducing cold and allergic symptoms.

4. Collagen Synthesis
Vitamin C activates enzymes that synthesize collagen, helping to keep protein tissues such as bones, skin, and vascular ligaments in the body firm.
In particular, scurvy can be prevented by taking only a small amount of vitamin C. In addition, if you get hurt or take vitamin C after surgery, it will help you recover from wounds quickly and relieve pain.

5. Skin Beauty
Vitamin C helps relieve freckles and freckles by promoting regeneration of damaged skin and inhibiting the production of tyrosinase, an enzyme that makes melanin pigments. It also helps form collagen and is effective in maintaining skin elasticity.

Vitamin C deficiency

1. Lack of vitamin C intake may impair collagen synthesis, leading to scurvy, skeletal abnormalities, delayed wounds, and bleeding in the body.

2. Lack of vitamin C reduces the ability (immune function) to destroy disease-causing pathogens, which can lead to repeated infections and allergic symptoms.

3. Vitamin C has a function of removing free oxygen and controlling cholesterol, which helps prevent cardiovascular disease, so it can affect the progress of cardiovascular disease in case of shortage.

Vitamin C hyperplasia

1. Since ascorbic acid in 1 vitamin C is strongly acidic when dissolved in water, excessive consumption can put pressure on the stomach, such as diarrhea and heartburn.

2. Rarely, overdose of vitamin C can cause symptoms of excess hydroxychloroquine in the blood. Since aquatic salts can cause kidney stones, it is recommended that people on dialysis should be careful not to overeat.

3. Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron, which can cause excess iron build-up when taken. This can lead to hemochromatosis, which can damage organs, so it is recommended that people who go to school for hemochromatosis be careful.

4. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, excessive vitamin C intake during pregnancy may not be safe for mothers and fetuses. Pregnant women are advised to eat after consulting a doctor.
Because vitamin C is acidic, vitamin pills applied directly to the skin can irritate the skin, so use it carefully.

Vitamin C intake precautions

1. Vitamin C is said to be best absorbed after meals. It is also better to take it several times a day because it has a short half-life. It is recommended to refrain from eating before bedtime because it can sometimes cause insomnia.

2. Vitamin C, a water-soluble substance, is easily absorbed by water, but people with poor stomach may suffer from gastrointestinal problems if taken.

3. Drinking alcohol, cigarettes interfere with vitamin C absorption, so it's good to avoid taking vitamin C.
